Taking advantage of the abundance of wind coming up the Columbia River from the Pacific, a wind farm stands along a ridge above the river. The river here through Umatilla Reservoir held by the John Day Dam which produces over 2000 Megawatts of electric power. Interstate 80 and main railway route cut through the end of the ridge where it meets the river.
